Established in 2019 (initially as Travel Grants Committee), this Committee develops and administers grants, awards, or other support for early-career researchers in particular (but not only) to participate in AILC-ICLA Congresses. Other scholars who have significant difficulties in funding their participation in ICLA activities can also be supported.
The Committee also supports early-career events organised by our Member Associations through a matching-fund scheme.
In each three-year term, the Committee will propose to the Executive Council sums and rules for such subsidies.
The Committee is made up of a Chair, nominated by the ICLA President; other members, normally 2, appointed by the Chair in consultation with the ICLA President; and one further member who One member of this committee should also be a member of ECARE.
The Executive Council approved the Committee's proposal to offer Congress participation grants to:
- Graduate students
- Early Career Researchers
- senior scholars whose circumstances do not allow them to finance their travel or participation in ICLA events.
For details on these grants, deadlines and how to apply, go to the Participation Grants page.
At its meeting in September 2024, the Executive Council furthermore approved the proposal to provide some matching funds for early-career events organised by our Member Associations in good standing (for example: graduate conferences, training events, and other research-oriented events aimed at and organised by, or with the collaboration of, early career researchers). This support will take the form of up to 10 yearly grants overall of up to US $250 each, to be supplemented by at least the same amount by the National Association. Applications will normally open in March and October. (Overall and individual sums, as well as procedures and dates, are subject to periodic review by the Executive Council.)
For rules and deadlines see the Matching Grants page.
The AILC-ICLA gratefully welcomes donations to the Participation Grants fund.
