Annual lecture
The AILC-ICLA has established an Annual Lecture series to present and showcase the work of its Research Committees.
Each research committees can propose potential speakers, and a speaker is selected annually by the forum of research committee Chairs, with the approval of the Executive Council.
The lectures are streamed online to enable anyone to attend, wherever they are in the world, and the video recording will be made available thereafter on the ICLA website.
The 2026 lecture will be given on 20 August 2026 by Nouri Gana, Professor of Comparative Literature & Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA), with the title "Mahmoud Darwish and the Predicament of National Allegory”.
The inaugural lecture of the series was given in November 2025 by Prof. Dr. Karina van Dalen-Oskam (Huygens Institute KNAW and University of Amsterdam) on the topic of "Perceptions of Literariness across Borders”. A video recording of her lecture can be found below.
