The aim of the Research Committee on the Comparative History of East Asian Literatures is to plan and edit a history of the literatures of Asia from a comparative perspective, starting with the earliest known writings and continuing up to the modern age. Literature in the languages of Asia has developed in a sphere of mutual influence independent from Europe, and documenting this development will redraw the map of "world literature."
Members of the ICLA are welcome to join the committee’s work. It is enough to email the chair of the committee, who will announce workshops, sessions at ICLA congresses, and calls for papers. The work is complex and largely unprecedented. Those who wish to take responsibility for organizing the history of particular areas or periods are especially appreciated.
Early-career members are warmly welcomed. Please contact the Chair.
