Call for Applications: New Editor of Recherche Littéraire / Literary Research

The Association internationale de littérature comparée/International Comparative Literature Association (AILC/ICLA) is inviting applications for the position of Editor of Recherche Littéraire/Literary Research (ISSN 0849-0570), its annual peer-reviewed journal. An Open Access journal published by Peter Lang, RL/LR generally appears in December of each year. Its mission is to inform comparative literature scholars worldwide of recent contributions to the field. To that end, it publishes scholarly essays, review essays discussing recent research developments in particular sub-fields of the discipline, as well as reviews of books on comparative topics. While all contributions are generally commissioned, unsolicited research articles are also welcome. Past issues since 2016 will provide prospective applicants with an overview of the journal’s range of topics and editorial policies. They can be accessed on the ICLA website: https://www.ailc-icla.org/literary-research/ or on the publisher’s website: https://www.peterlang.com/series/7206. The journal is currently indexed in the MLA bibliography and in ERIH PLUS.

Profile of the new editor: ideally, the new Editor should be able to edit competently in English and French, the two official languages of the ICLA. He/she/they should also be able to demonstrate previous experience as an editor (either as the editor of books and/or journals). The selected editor will serve for an initial period of three years, starting in January 2026. In order to enable a smooth transition, it is proposed that the 2026 issue be edited jointly by the new and outgoing editors.

Editorial tasks and responsibilities: The new editor will be responsible for inviting scholarly essays, review essays, and book reviews (the number of which will be left at his/her discretion) for each issue. The editor should continue to maintain a good working relationship with publishers (requesting review copies; mailing pdf files once reviews are published). The journal should continue to be a “state of the art” journal in the field of comparative literature. The new editor will copy-edit articles and book reviews for content, style and language and will negotiate revisions requested by the peer-reviewers of the scholarly essays. The successful applicant may elect to appoint an editorial assistant to help him/her with bibliographical references, correspondence with publishers, checking factual data and proofreading, etc. The ICLA will provide an annual budget to facilitate the daily operations of the journal, the amount of which will be determined by the ICLA board in agreement with the new editor.

Interested colleagues are invited to send in their application to Lucia Boldrini, the current President of ICLA (l.boldrini@gold.ac.uk) and Marc Maufort, the current editor  Marc.maufort@ulb.be) by May 15, 2025. The application dossier should comprise a full CV listing scholarly publications and editorial experience, and specifying areas of scholarly expertise. A one-page statement about the applicant’s editorial philosophy should also be provided. Online interviews with shortlisted candidates will be organized in the second half of June and it is expected that the new editor will be designated by mid-July, ahead of the ICLA congress in Seoul, 28 July-1 August 2025.
